In this lesson we will tell about simple and comfort way creation inking pixel icons in Photoshop. Of course, to draw inking by hand — the most universal way, but in the same time too long. For usual needings standard Photoshop effects are good.
Let's discuss that we will draw from two windows: in first (let's name it "preview") will be our icon in real size (100%), and in the second (let's name it "work") the same file the same icon, but in bigger size (let's do it 200%-1600%)). Its more comfortable. To make it you should create file (ctrl+n) any size, for example — 100x100 points. After that do Window -> Arrange -> New Window. You will see clone your created file. Scale will be another (ctrl+ "+" and ctrl + "-") in new window like that to make it more comfortable to work with pixel graphic. For example 1200%. Like in this example:

Than we'll draw with Pencil Tool (with size of plumage — 1 point) and erase with Erase Tool (in pencil mode with size of plumage — 1 point)
So let's draw something simple, pixel, in our case "document" (just rectangle with topped edge) with grey colour:

let's make Outer Glow effect (Layer -> Layer style -> Blending options)

Main parameters — colour is a little bit darker than colour of document, Opacity=100%, Size= 1px, Range=7%, press on image Contourand do like on a picture (add point with parameter Input = 93-98%, Output= 0%):

So we get inkining that constantly round our picture
Now it has 2 behaviours that are important for us:
But you can change it in settings Contour approx as on image down ( Input =6%, Output=100% ) and document would be with inking including corners:

Then if we set Contour as on next image Input =85%, Output=30%) we'll get intermediate effect: with semi-transparent corner points:

You can make similar and very useful effect with Stroke parameter of Blending mode (Inner, Center, or Outer). Try it.
So intermediate meanings and additional effects could be get just with experiment with this and other parameters (Gradient fill, Drop Shadow etc)- you'll get rather difficult and pliant for edit objects in one layer:
